Woo Hoo!!!
July 1. Happy, happy day! It's official! We're finally approved to adopt!
Our homestudy/profile information has been reviewed and approved by LDS
Family Services. It's now being sent to agencies in Washington, Oregon,
Idaho and Alaska to be viewed by birth parents.
This is a HUGE step! This is the sixth time we've started the "adoption
process"–three times through the Commonwealth of Kentucky and three times
through LDS Family Services. Something else always seemed to come up. Twice
our job schedules changed and we had to drop out of the state-mandated
classes. Once we got custody of our three nephews during the process which
brought everything to a grinding halt. The last time we finished the classes
and were one home visit away from approval before we moved from Kentucky to
Washington. It's been very frustrating!
After we moved to Washington we waited exactly a year before we started the
process again. During that time we had to decide if we still wanted to adopt
an infant. Then we had to decide if we wanted to adopt domestically or
internationally. We found an international program we were interested in but
the program went on hold due to legal issues. Back to the drawing board! We
decided on domestic infant adoption but then we had to research agencies and
attend open houses so that we could make an informed decision. We finally
decided to go with LDS Family Services in Seattle.
Now, the 9-month approval process is finally over and it looks like the
sixth time's the charm. Granted, we're still not parents. But now we're just
waiting to be chosen (much more stressful than elementary school dodgeball
teams choosing sides during recess). It could be 2 years from now or it
could be a month from now. Either way, we can't wait until the day comes
that we finally have a precious child!
Anyway, below are a couple of adoptions links that may be of interest to you:
