Well, things are going well in the Purdy household. Other than the bug or whatever it was that passed through... Jason recovered. So did Haley. Kelsee seems to have gone into relapse.
Babysitting Adventures
Haley was sick and cranky for about a week during the middle of February. She wasn't sleeping well, couldn't be entertained by her toys and just wanted her Mommy! Unfortunately, at the tale end of that week, Kelsee and Jason finally decided they needed a date (saw "Gods & Generals"; good flick). That meant babysitter. Kelsee's former coworker was begging to babysit, so we worked it out to go see the movie near where she lived. We tried to explain to Susan that the last time we left Haley with a babysitter, she cried the whole 3 1/2 hours, and that she'd been sick all week. Susan wasn't to be deterred. While we were grateful for the short break, we were a tad concerned. We dropped Haley off, and anxiously returned 5 hours later (long movie) and expected to be greeted by a crying baby and exasperated babysitter. But alas, smiles all the way around.
So now we can leave Haley with the babysitter and be at ease, right? Ummm...
The next Thursday, Kelsee and Jason were part of the sealing team at the temple, so Kelsee asked one of her young women to babysit, trusting that all would go well. The babysitter even brought a friend, another of Kelsee's young women. Thank goodness. We were gone 4 hours. Haley cried uncontrollably for 3 of them. As a matter of fact, even Daddy was worthless in the soothing department when Mommy took the girls home. However, the second Kelsee came home and took Haley in her arms, she stopped crying in mid-cry.
Like we said in a previous post, Mommy's the comforter. Daddy's the entertainment.
First Solid Food Experience
For the last month or so, Haley has been exceptionally interested in our eating habits. She will stop all she's doing and watch intently as we put whatever we're eating in our mouths. The last couple of weeks we've put her in her high chair at the table during meals, and she gets extremely hyper watching us eat—kicking feet, waving arms, making excited sounds. It was obviously time.
We waited until we were sure Haley was feeling better from the bug, and decided one Sunday afternoon (Feb 24) that The Day had arrived. Mommy mixed rice cereal and formula and water together. Daddy got the camera and camcorder ready. Haley innocently sat with a "something's up" look on her face. Mommy put the first spoonful in. The look on Haley's face changed to a "And what am I supposed to do now" look. Her facial expressions were so hilarious! Mommy and Daddy couldn't stop laughing. We laughed so much our faces hurt. We didn't get much cereal in that baby belly that time. See a couple of pictures of the event here.
Now, Haley can't get the cereal fast enough. She LOVES it! Squash is another story. We tried that last week. Haley would take one spoonful and make a horrible face. Then when Kelsee would try another spoonful, Haley would only stick her tongue out through pursed lips to "test" it. Kelsee got another spoonful of squash into Haley's mouth today, but that was only met with gagging from the little drama queen. We'll just try something else for now and come back to the squash later.
Coming up
Two appointments for Haley this month (so far): Occupational Therapy next Monday, and follow-up with the neurologist on the 19th. We'll also meet with the hospital social worker that day. We'll keep you posted.
