Yes, it's been a while since our last update. But lots of stuff going on...
Halloween
Haley was a bunny. An unhappy bunny. The cutest, most over-the-top, unhappy bunny ever! She had been sick on top of having trouble with her hydrocephalus around Halloween so she wasn't in good spirits. She wasn't interested in trick-or-treating at our church's Trunk or Treat party at all. The costume bugged her. Holding her mama's hand bugged her. Just being awake seemed to bug her. In spite of her reluctance, Kelsee dutifully dragged her around from car to car while Jason manned our trunk. She would say "treat" at most cars but her heart just wasn't in it. Until she saw the chocolate! Once she realized some of the candy in her jack-o-lantern was chocolate, she was much more interested (she's a chocoholic)! In fact, she sat down right in the middle of the parking lot and tried to open and eat it! That was the end of trick or treating!
Once we were in the car headed home she started whining and crying for more chocolate. We had a few errands we had to run so we told her she couldn't have more until we got home. She didn't say a thing about it until we walked into the house an hour or so later. As soon as her feet hit the carpet, she said, "coclate" with a big grin on her face! So funny!
November and December
Sick, sick and sick. That was November. Okay, that was December, too! In fact that's been constant since the summer.
November really did seem to be one sickness after another. Then in late November we started worrying that something was wrong with Haley's shunt. Sure enough, a CT scan on November 24 showed that one of her shunts had pulled out of the ventricle, a very serious problem. She was scheduled for surgery on Nov 29 but it was postponed until Dec 3 due to scheduling error at the hospital. We were on pins and needles the whole time.
November did bring some joyous events. Kelsee's new nephew, Graydon, was born on Nov 22 to Kolby and Danielle. He's beautiful and healthy and is already charming the pants off of everyone! We also hosted some friends, Jeannette and Daniel Kebede, for Thanksgiving. It was a lovely day!
Haley's surgery December 3 went beautifully. She only had to stay for one night and we had a wonderful new neurosurgeon, Dr. Greene. She didn't even shave Haley's head. Haley recovered very well and even stayed healthy for a week or so after surgery! She's been like a new child since her surgery. The pressure in her brain had been three times what it should have been. Poor thing!
The rest of December brought more illness. This time we all had it! December also brought our 10th wedding anniversary and Haley's first night away from her mama. The mama was the one that had the hard time. Haley had loads of fun with our friends, Terry and Cindy Hess. Little stinker!
For the first time ever, we did not go to Kentucky for the holidays. In spite of being far from family, we had a wonderful Christmas with our friends in Washington. We spent Christmas day with one of Kelsee's best friends, Susan Tucker, and her boyfriend's family. It was a great day. We really had a peaceful and special Christmas this year.
Upcoming
We're awaiting the birth of Kirby and Kristin's baby, which could be anytime now (actually due mid-February). Kristin's been on bed rest for over a month but she continues to do well and the baby is still doing well. We can't wait to see our next little nephew!
Kourtney and Kris are expecting again. This time it looks like they will also be having a boy (in June). We're excited about a third nephew this year! On an equally happy note, their daughter, Savannah, 3, is making great strides since moving back to Kentucky. We're all so pleased that she can be seen at Cincinnati Children's Hospital where the top Tuberous Sclerosis clinic is located. Savannah's progress brings such great joy to our entire family. Please continue to remember her in your prayers. We know that our prayers have been answered in so many ways.
The other good news is that we are expecting, too! We're planning to adopt again this year!! We are just awaiting the notification of our approval. Then it's the agonizing wait until we are selected by a birthfamily. We'll have a link to our profile up soon. Feel free to spread the word. We are looking for a newborn, any race, either sex. If you would like to help us fund our adoption, please click here!
